The Aida was built in France and launched in 1911. Originally ordered for the Egyptian Ports and Lighthouses Administration, she was later transferred to Egyptian Marina and used to ferry troops. In Oct 1941 she was attacked by German aircraft and despite not being hit, her Captain beached her thinking that she was sinking! The Aïda was refloated and repaired and continued in service until 1957 when she was eventually lost during a military personnel exchange on Big Brothers Island in heavy storms.

The Barge, Gubal, Egypt The Gubal Barge is a small open black hull some 35m long, now collapsed in places, with dark dusty sand in its bottom. It is believed to be a vessel sunk during the Arab-Israeli war, and rests on a gradually sloping coral garden, in 15m of water.

Wreck of the El Minya, Hughurda, Egypt An Egyptian minesweeper sunk by Israeli fighters while lying at anchor in 1969, this wreck lies in 30m on a rock sea bed. There is a large debris field which contains a lot of live munitions. The wreck is only 70m long and has a blast hole on the starboard side, which can be penetrated.

The Giannis D, Gubal, Egypt

The Giannis D was built in 1969 in Japan and was originally called the Shoyo Maru. The Giannis D set sail from Croatia with a cargo of sawn softwood destined for the Saudi Arabian Port of Jeddah. The Giannis D had hit the northwest corner of Sha'ab Abu Nuhas at full speed and sank on April 19th 1983.

The Kingston, Sha'ab Ali, Egypt

The Kingston is a twin mast steamship, 80 metres in length with a beam of 10m and she ran into the reef at shag rock on Feb 22nd 1881. As with many of the wrecks in the Red Sea she did not sink immediately and it took 2 days for her to finally accept her fate before she settled upright in only 18m of water (at the stern) on the gently sloping reef wall.

Wreck of the Kormoran, Straits of Tiran, Egypt Built by VEB Schiffwert at Rostock in 1963. The Kormoran was renamed in 1976 to the Adamastos and again in 1980 to the Zingara. She was a 1,582 ton 82.4m long general cargo vessel. The Kormoran's final journey began from Aqaba on 21st August 1984 with a cargo of phosphates and ended the following day on Laguna reef in the Straits of Tiran, where she was declared a total constructive loss.

Wreck of the Million Hope, Nabq, Egypt Built in Japan, as a bulk carrier, the Million Hope was launched as the Ryusei Maru in 1972. She displaced 26,181 tonnes gross and measured 174.6m by 24.8m with a draught of 11m. The Million Hope sailed from Aqaba in Jordan on 19 June 1996 & on the following day when the vessel was approaching the Straits of Tiran a fire broke out and, out of control, she struck headlong into the reef near Nabq and sunk.

Wreck of the MV Cominoland, Gozo One of the ships used by the Captain Morgan company for its Maltese Islands day cruises. it was scuttled by the Maltese government in 2006. Laying nearby its companion ship the MV Karwella. The prop sits at a maximum depth of 43 meters.

Wreck of the MV Karwella, Gozo

The 50m long MV Karwela was sunk in August 2006. She is located, in easy reach from the shore, just of the coast from Xatt L-Ahmar and started in 1957 as the MS Frisia II, renamed to the Nordpaloma in 1977 before she came to Malta in 1986 to serve as a passenger ferry capable of taking a maximum of 800 persons but no cars.

Wreck of the MV Rozi, Malta The Tug Boat Rozi is one of the most popular wrecks in Malta. Built in Bristol, England in 1958 by Charles Hill & Sons Ltd.The Tugboat Rozi operated in Grand Harbour Valletta. She was scuttled and is now lying intact, except for its engines and propeller, in an upright position in about 34m.

Wreck of the P29, Malta The East German Minesweeper Kondor class P29 was scuttled off Cirkewwa in Malta. The P29 has served with the Armed Forces of Malta for over 12 years and was responsible for many offshore missions. The wreck sits upright at a maximum depth of 37 meters with the top reaching 12 meters. The wreck is approx 150m from shore.

The Salem Express was originally built in the French shipyards of La Seyne in 1964. The Salem Express was a passenger ferry, based in the port of Safaga, and on the evening of Dec 15th 1991 was returning from the port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. During a storm the Salem Express struck Hyndman Reef with catastrophic force. Striking the reef on the starboard side of her bow, she not only ripped a hole in her side, but the entire bow door was forced upward. She sank fully to the seabed in 30 metres of water, in as little as 10 minutes.

The Numidia was a British cargo ship, built in Glasgow in 1901. On 6th July 1901, she set out from Liverpool carrying a general cargo of 7,000 tons and a crew of 97, under the command of Mr John Craig, bound for Calcutta. Upon sighting Big Brother Island off the port bow, the Captain altered course, incorrectly thinking he would take the ship over one mile to the west of the Island. At 2:10am the ship ran aground on Big Brothers Island – north of the Lighthouse!

Wreck of the SS Thistlegorm, Sha'ab Ali, Egypt Built in 1940 in Sunderland, the Thistlegorm was a 4898 ton 415ft cargo ship. Requisitioned by the Navy during the WWII, it was fitted with a 4.7inch gun, machine guns and an anti-aircraft gun mounted aft. She left Scotland on 5th September with cargo to resupply the British 8th Army in North Africa. The SS Thistlegorm was sunk at anchorage in Sha'ab Ali by two German Heinkel bombers on Oct 6th 1941.

Wreck of the St. Anthony, Maui, Hawaii St. Anthony is a 65-foot shrimp boat that was intentionally sunk in October 1997. Along the sandy bottom next to the wreck, old tires and cement blocks are scattered, creating an artificial reef.

Wreck of the USAF F4 Corsair, O'ahu, Hawaii The pilot of this Corsair ran out of fuel on a training mission in 1946 and ditched his aircraft. It settled intact in 30m of water. With the tips of its blades bent back from the impact, the propeller settled into the sand up to its shaft.
