| Colonia del Sacramento |
Colonia del Sacramento is a city in southwestern Uruguay, by the Río de la Plata, facing Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is the oldest town in Uruguay and capital of the departamento of Colonia. It has a population of 21,714 (2004 census). It is renowned for its historic quarter, a World Heritage Site. Modern Colonia del Sacramento produces textiles and has a free trade zone, in addition to a polytechnic center and various government buildings. |

Montevideo is the largest city, the capital, and the chief port of Uruguay. Montevideo is the only city in the country with a population over 1,000,000. 18 de Julio is the city's main avenue and extends from the Plaza Independencia, which is the junction between the Ciudad Vieja (the historical quarter) and the rest of the city, to the boundary between the neighborhoods of Cordón and Parque Batlle. |

| Salto |
Salto is the second city of Uruguay. It has a population of 99,072 (2004 census). It is the capital of the department of Salto. The city is situated 496 km by road northwest of Montevideo on the Uruguay River, opposite the Argentine city of Concordia, Entre Ríos, to which it is linked by the Salto Grande Bridge built on top of the Salto Grande Dam. |
